Overview
In the event that you need an ID card immediately and cannot wait for the production of a normal ID card by the Bundesdruckerei GmbH (because you cannot identify yourself by means of a valid passport, for example), you have the possibility to have a temporary personal ID card issued directly.
The period of validity of a temporary personal ID card is a maximum of 3 months.- Personal ID card

Documents
- Another identification document (e.g. passport)
and/or a civic status certificate (e.g. birth certificate)
that proves the identity of the applicant.- a biometric passport photo (compliant with the photo sample table).

To apply for an ID card, children’s passport and passport, children must come in person (including infants) to the citizens’ office for the initial application and every update. Both parents must sign the application. (Optionally, one parent can sign the application and the other parent can pick up the ID card/passport) In the case of sole custody, the court decision on this must be presented with the application.
Fees
A fee of €10 will be charged for the issue of a temporary ID card.

Notes
The application for a temporary personal ID card must be made in person; only pick-up is possible through a proxy (on presentation of power of attorney!).
